Meet our latest farm partner - Melissa Madden of Open Spaces Cider in Trumansburg, New York. We are so pleased to be working with Melissa. She farms the way we do here at Red House Ranch. This collaboration is just one more way for you to choose locally grown, organically and humanely raised, clean food - You can't get better turkey than this!
Melissa Madden tends to apple orchards, forages wild fruit for cider and perry and raises chickens (eggs) and turkeys. All orchard and livestock are managed organically, and poultry is pastured in a day range system in meadows and silvopasture. Melissa shares her farm goods with folks through her Apple and Egg CSAs, direct-to-customer meat sales, pop-up farm bars and orchard ecology education for kiddos. Melissa has been a farmer in the Finger Lakes for 20 years (this year!), with Open Spaces as her 3rd farm project.
In 2024 Melissa raised her turkeys on Iradell Road on her small parcel of pasture, woods edge and protected wetland, and in an adjacent rented field. Turkeys- beyond their very delicious meat- help to rehab these old, “marginal for agriculture” fields and respect the wetland setbacks through rapid rotation day-range grazing. All feed is certified organic from Keystone Mills’ Nature's Trail product line in (Ovid).
Please contact Melissa for any questions about turkeys (or farm bars, or apples, or kids’ programs!) openspacescider@gmail.com
